Episode Two: Jeff McCallum

This week on SnapShot, we meet up with surfboard shaper Jeff McCallum and his 170 pound mastiff, Kimbo. Tim heads into the shaping room to document and get a first hand look at the process of shaping a surfboard.  Jeff is an artist, entrepreneur and modern day visionary in his field. Tim investigates the rich history of shaping in San Diego that has been passed down from mentor to student, while documenting Jeff’s process of shaping and glassing a surfboard as it evolves into a rideable work of art.

In addition to meeting up with Jeff, we visit Bird's Surf Shed, Joe Roper and Kahana Kalama from Aloha Sunday.

Luthiers: Keith "The Blues Wizard" Kifer and Pepe Romero Jr.

Episode One took off with a bang last night on KPBS with the highest viewership of the day.

We photographed and visited two amazing luthiers from San Diego from two walks of life. Keith Kifer, aka "The Blues Wizard", is an Ocean Beach fixture seen most often playing his handmade suitcase guitars. Joining Keith is Pepe Romero Jr. from Oceanside. Pepe is the son of famed guitarist Pepe Romero. Pepe has been making guitars not only for his father, but the likes of Jack Johnson and Ben Harper.

Thanks to everyone that tuned in. Next up, join us for a visit to meet surfboard shaper, Jeff McCallum, and his 175 pound dog Kimbo. May 8th at 8:30 on KPBS.
